Professional Biography SCOTT SIMON, M.S., CRC

Mr. Simon is The Simon Group's lead vocational expert, counselor, consultant, and supervisor.  He specializes in performing vocational analysis and feasibility evaluations of individuals having significant labor disabling limitations. Mr. Simon conducts vocational evaluations, and recommends training and direct placement plans for a broad base of displaced employees. 

Expertise - A vocational expert in Workers Compensation, Family Law, Social Security, Personal Injury, Employment Discrimination, and Long Term Disability cases, Mr. Simon taught vocational rehabilitation on the graduate school level and has lectures frequently to other peer professionals, attorneys, insurance companies and general audiences. 

History - Before founding The Simon Group, Mr. Simon was a vocational expert and rehabilitation counselor with Whelan, Morrell, French and Simon for 13 years. Prior to that he served in a similar capacity for the Santa Clara County, Department of Mental Health for five years.

Education - Mr. Simon received a M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling, from San Francisco State University, and a B.S. in Speech Communication, from the University of New York. He is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor through the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselors and a Licensed Marriage, Family, and Child Counselor; as well as a Senior Disability Analyst and Diplomate, for the American Board of Disability Analysts. 

Memberships - Mr. Simon is a member of the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals, the American Board of Vocational Experts, the American Academy of Pain Management, the National Rehabilitation Association, and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

Leadership - Mr. Simon supervises the firm's staff of professionals and specialized subcontractors.  Mr. Simon continuously engages in continuing education specialized in areas such as: Legal and Ethical Aspects of Counseling; Development of return-to-work programs; Americans with Disabilities Act; Diagnosis and Treatment in Marital Therapy; Treatment modalities and management of Chronic Pain Patients; Alternative Dispute Resolution; Provision of Expert Testimony; Methodologies for Performing Earning Capacity Assessments; Evaluation of Employment Discrimination cases.

Experience Summary KAREN SULLIVAN, MS, CRC

Ms. Sullivan acquired a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from San Francisco State University.  Her studies were completed in 1983.  Previously, she acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology.  Studies were undertaken at Chico State University, in Chico, California. 

Previously, she has functioned as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and Administrator at a residential treatment program for young adults and has held positions such as Job Placement Specialist.  She was a Vocational Instructor with developmentally disabled adults and a Supervisor at a board and care home for mentally disabled adults.

Subsequently, she worked as a Rehabilitation Counselor for the Santa Clara County Department of Mental Health and  she provided individual, group, and family counseling with clients of all ages and from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.  She specialized in deaf/hard of hearing clientele.

Since 1993, she has worked as a Rehabilitation Counselor and Consultant at The Simon Group, in San Jose, California.  She has been directly responsible for completing vocational analyses of hundreds of individuals presenting with a variety of neurological, orthopedic, and psychiatric issues.  This has involved occupational research, job placement, and vocational plan development.  Finally, she has worked onsite for seven years as a Vocational Counselor at a Functional Restoration Program dedicated to patients in chronic pain.

Overall, she has an excellent knowledge of the California labor market and occupational databases statewide.  She has performed vocational testing of thousands of individuals presenting with a myriad of labor disabling conditions.
